State sets priorities for limited flu vaccine

The state has a plan to get the limited supply of flu vaccines to Vermonters most in need. Physicians will vaccinate the highest-risk children first. The Health Department also is working out a way to get the shot to all nursing home residents.

Health Commissioner Paul Jarris says the plan will ensure that about 10,000 doses will be available to protect the most vulnerable Vermonters before the flu season starts.

The vaccine will be available Wednesday to children who have chronic medical conditions that require frequent treatment. Doctors are advised to establish a waiting list for children ages six months to two years, in case more vaccines become available.
