State to do road work at night

The Vermont Transportation Agency is trying to ease congestion for travelers and construction crews by doing more paving and repair work at night.

Crews are now repairing a section of French Hill on Interstate 89 in Williston at night and the state is planning to work at night to repave another section of the highway in Chittenden County.

Last summer, night crews repaired U.S. 7 and Vermont Routes 30 and 125 in downtown Middlebury. A bridge in Woodstock was replaced by crews working at night.

State Construction Engineer David Hoyne says night work eases congestion and delays for motorists and contractors are more productive.

Hoyne says night workers get paid more, but the cost is offset by faster work.
