State Treasury Exceeds Expectations

The Shumlin administration says the state treasury should end up with $20 million more than expected at the end of the budget year.

Administration Secretary Jeb Spaulding says state revenues in May were ahead of target for the third consecutive month.

But he says continued concerns about the global economy mean that state revenues may not be as strong next year.

In May this year, the personal income tax generated more than $31 million. That exceeded what the state expected to collect by more than 58 percent.

The personal income tax is the state’s largest single revenue source. For the first eleven months of the fiscal year, it generated more than $494 million.

And that amount is about three percent higher than state budget officials had expected.
