A Vermont State Police trooper fired last year after a dispute over his presence at a work assignment has won reinstatement.

The Vermont Labor Relations Board ruled that detective Sergeant Joel Davidson will be paid back wages with interest.

The board said that the police officials who fired Davidson couldn’t prove their case.

The State Police charged that Davidson was untruthful when he told officials about when he reported to the Rutland State Airport and whether he left the airport to get gasoline,.

The decision says the discrepancies between the different versions of events did not show Davidson was lying.

It’s unclear when Davidson will return to work.
