Vermont Emergency Management is warning people affected by weekend flooding in the Rutland area to take special precautions to avoid injury and illness.

And the Central Vermont Public Service Corporation is warning its electric customers whose homes were flooded to have their electrical systems checked by a professional before turning them back on.

Emergency Management says additional rain is forecast and the saturated ground could leaded to more flooding.

Some flood basics: Always leave flooded areas and never walk or drive through floodwaters. If you have to leave your home turn off the electricity at the main circuit breaker.

Beware of spoiled food and don’t eat anything that has come in contact with flood waters.
