The owner of a Fairfax landmark that burned in a Christmas Eve fire says he hasn’t decided whether to rebuild.

Pierre Menard is owner of the Steeple Market. Menard says he first wants to find out how much of his loss is covered by insurance.

Damage is estimated at about $1 million in Wednesday’s fire, which gutted the former 19th-century church. The only tenant wasn’t home at the time.

Vermont State Police Sgt. Stan Baranowski says the fire was likely sparked by an electrical malfunction in the ceiling of the basement. It’s not considered suspicious.
