After being on the campaign trail for months, Republican John Stephen officially becomes a candidate for Congress from New Hampshire’s First District today.

The former state Health and Human Services commissioner has been making campaign appearances since August, when he left his state job.

He will make his announcement seven times today, on a bus tour that starts at 7 a.m. in Bartlett and ends 12 hours later in Manchester. Stephen also will make stops in Conway, Laconia, Somersworth, Portsmouth and Raymond.

Former Congressman Jeb Bradley also is running for the Republican nomination to get his old job back. Democrat Carol Shea-Porter beat Bradley two years ago.
