Storm Damages Less Than Expected In NEK

Much of the Kingdom is served by small municipal power companies, and staffing is lean.

So for example  when Lyndonville Electric got calls about 300 outages, they were swamped. Falling branches struck lines west of Route 5, in places like Sheffield, and also farther east  in West Burke and Newark.

But the workers said the roads were not blocked, for the most part. Police dispatchers in St. Johnsbury and Newport had braced for emergencies, but did not report many weather-related problems during the evening.

Apparently many residents stayed off the roads and tucked in for the windy night. This morning they’re waking up to survey any damage in their yards.
