Vermont State Police say a Stowe woman is recovering from a broken wrist and a laceration after she was hit by a town police cruiser while walking near the middle of a local road.

State Police say 64-year-old Irene Bareau was walking on West Hill Road just before noon on Thursday when she was hit by an unmarked police car traveling out of a driveway.

The cruiser was driven by Stowe Police Sargent Edward Stewart.

State police trooper Garry Scott estimates the cruiser was traveling about five miles an hour when it hit Bareau.

Scott says Stewart could have been ticketed for not paying attention and Bareau could have been cited for not walking on the edge of the road, but neither of them was charged.
