Stowe property buyers sue ski resort

Stowe Mountain Lodge is facing a number of lawsuits from people who planned to buy slopeside condominiums in the resort’s new luxury development.

Since the lodge opened last summer, the resort’s owner, American International Group Inc., nearly collapsed and was bailed out by the federal government.

Some buyers are concerned about the resort’s uncertainty and the delays in closing dates for the properties.

In one lawsuit, Aaron Kwittken, CEO of Kwittken & Co., a New York City-based public relations firm, claims Stowe missed the Oct. 1 closing date on a share of a condo he planned to buy. He now wants his $37,000 deposit back.

Stowe Marketing Director Mike Colbourn has declined to comment on the lawsuit.
