Officials with the Middlebury Union High School say they’re complying with the law by not giving official recognition to a Christian club.
The club is allowed to use school facilities.
But it has been denied recognition that would allow it to use equipment and receive school money.
The lawsuit by the Arizona-based Alliance Defense Fund claims the school is discriminating against the club Youth Alive because it allows other noncurriculum clubs on campus such as the Gay/Straight Organization, the Arabic Club and the Outing Club.
Superintendent Lee Sease says the school’s first goal is to be in compliance with the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
