Former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu has crossed the Connecticut River urging Vermonters to support Mitt Romney in next week’s Republican primary in Vermont.

Sununu joined Republican legislative leaders and other party activists from around the state at a Statehouse event Wednesday to drum up support for the former Massachusetts governor.

Sununu also faulted former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum for urging support from Democrats as well as Republicans in the Michigan primary, which Romney won on Tuesday.

Vermont’s primary is next Tuesday, March 6.

Bob Stannard of the group Americans for a Better Tomorrow Today says he thinks Vermont will support President Barack Obama in November, as it did strongly in 2008. He calls Romney the candidate of the 1 percent richest Americans.
