The Vermont Supreme Court has overturned the conviction of a former Wolcott man accused of murdering a neighbor in September 2000.
The court ordered Dennis Tribble to remain held without bail pending the resolution of the case.
The court ruled that Tribble’s decision to go to trial without an attorney did not meet constitutional standards.
Tribble fired three sets of attorneys before his trial in 2002. The trial eventually went forward without attorneys and without Tribble being present.
Tribble was convicted of shooting to death neighbor Michael Borello after a long-running dispute.
Lamoille County State’s Attorney Joel Page says he expects the case will go to trial again.
