Frustrated teachers and school officials are speaking out about the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
Last night, they urged Senator Bernie Sanders to change the law or get rid of it.
Sanders is a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee. And he hosted the meeting at the Burlington High School.
Many teachers say the drawbacks of the law’s standardized testing requirements outweigh any benefits.
And they say the tests cause anxiety among students.
Sanders voted against the law when he was in the House and says people across Vermont have told him they have serious concerns about it.
He has vowed to take last night’s comments with him back to Washington.
