Test drilling to begin Monday on Montpelier’s Carr Lot

A downtown Montpelier lot that’s been eyed for a new multi-modal transit center will be checked for hazardous material chemicals today.

There’s concern a lot owned by Alan Carr may contain a hazardous chemical known as PCBs– and that’s slowed the parcel’s redevelopment.

The lot had been used for parking until a few years ago until it was shut down, making Montpelier’s notoriously tight parking situation even tighter.

Carr has expressed interest in redeveloping the property if it does not end up being taken over by the city for the transit center.
