More than 20,000 New Hampshire residents have signed petitions calling for solutions to global warming that will also create millions of American jobs.

The Sierra Club petitions call for cuts in carbon emissions by 2 percent a year, which would equal roughly 80 percent by 2050.

It also calls for 2 million new jobs in renewable energy and energy efficient industries. The petition also calls for trade agreements that enforce workers’ rights and environmental standards.

Kurt Ehrenberg, the Sierra Club field representative in New Hampshire, says the idea is to let elected officials and candidates for office understand that New Hampshire citizens think global warming is a real threat.

The group holds a news conference today in Concord to display the petitions, which were signed around the state during the last several months.
