Threat Of Flooding Still Looms

With warm temperatures in the forecast, Vermont cities and towns continue to brace for the possibility of river ice jams and flooding.

The biggest threat are ice jams, when ice breaks up on rivers and then clogs water flow.

The National Weather Service in Burlington says that while the threat of flooding is low to moderate in most areas, ice jams are unpredictable, and communities need to monitor their rivers.

In Montpelier on Monday, a large crane was working to break up ice in the Winooski River, and city officials are keeping an eye on ice conditions that could lead to flooding.
