Three Vermont National Guard soldiers are recovering from wounds suffered last week in a roadside ambush in Iraq. Guard spokesperson Lieutenant Veronica Saffo says the soldiers were escorting a convoy in central Iraq that was attacked with roadside bombs on March 29. In the same attack, a New Hampshire National Guard soldier was killed.

Saffo says it was the first time since the Vermonters from the first battalion of the 86th artillery regiment arrived in Iraq last month that any of the 200 soldiers came under hostile fire. Saffo described the soldiers’ wound as superficial. She says the soldiers’ families have been notified, but she did not release their names.
