Vermont tourism officials say, despite record high gas prices and a slowing economy, tourists will still want to visit the state this summer.

Tom Torti of the Lake Champlain Chamber of Commerce says Vermont’s lakes, mountain and other attractions sell themselves.

He says the state has always benefited from a weak economy.

And Torti says Vermont businesses are benefiting this year from the weak American dollar, which makes the state a bargain for Canadian tourists.

But the tough economic times are being felt by some businesses.

Karen Boushie of Smuggler’s Notch says some vacationers are shopping around and looking for bargains more than in the past.
