Two Vermont communities are marking milestones in their recovery from Tropical Storm Irene flooding.

A community dinner was held Saturday in Duxbury to commemorate the closing down of Rebuild Waterbury, the organization formed to oversee the town’s recovery from the flood.

In Bartonsville, officials held the grand opening of new covered bridge that replaced an 1870 span swept away during on Aug. 28, 2011. Video of the bridge washing downstream came to symbolize Irene’s destructive passage across Vermont.

While much has been accomplished, much remains to be done.

Hundreds of families haven’t completed their recovery and the decision hasn’t been made yet on how to fund the $124 million project to resurrect the state office complex in Waterbury.
