Transportation budget gets preliminary approval

The Vermont Senate has given preliminary approval to the annual budget of state transportation projects.

That’s a sign that lawmakers are drawing closer to the end of their session.

There are three major budget bills that have to pass each year and the transportation bill is one of them.

Another of them deals with major state construction and maintenance projects and senators are moving forward on that one, too.

The Senate Appropriations Committee is working on the larger general fund budget and expects to complete its work on that some time next week.

When the Senate acts on all three budget bills, conference committees can be formed to work out differences with the House. That’s when the real push toward adjournment begins.
