Vermont’s 511 travel information service is getting a lot of business.
The state Agency of Transportation says phone calls to 511 and hits to the 511 Vermont web site are up sharply.
March marked the first time in the program’s history that calls to the service topped 50,000.
Meanwhile, the 511 Vermont Web site received nearly a million hits for the December-to-March period.
Information about road conditions is updated by state police and staff at highway garages around the state.
