Troubled Connecticut company owes Vermont $1.3 million

A troubled Connecticut company that manages nursing homes in Rutland and St. Albans owes Vermont more than $1 million.

Haven Healthcare Corporation, which has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, also owes the city of Rutland more than $50,000 for sewer and water service.

Across New England, the company has owes at least $31 million.

Officials in Vermont say nursing home chain not only failed to pay bills to the state and the city of Rutland but to the Vermont Health Care Association, which represents nursing homes, and vendors.

The Connecticut attorney general is seeking to have a court-appointed trustee temporarily oversee some of the company’s finances until a court hearing is held next month.
