Vermont Route 22A is still closed to traffic this afternoon following an accident that dumped 65,000 gallons of motor oil onto the ground. The Addison County Sheriff’s Department says the road could be reopened sometime Thursday night, depending on how the cleanup goes.

Vermont Emergency Management officials say the accident occurred at around 7:15 Thursday morning in front of the farm of Bridport Fire chief Ernest Audet.

Vermont Emergency Management Director Albie Lewis says Audet used his farm tractor to build a dike around the spill, helping to contain it. Lewis says the oil did not drain into a waterway. But Lewis says Agency of Natural Resources officials will determine how much environmental damage there is.

The driver of the truck was not seriously hurt.
