More than two dozen young people were in court yesterday to face charges that, in a rampage fueled by beer and marijuana, they vandalized a farmhouse where poet Robert Frost spent 20 of his summers.

Twenty-eight people charged with attending the Dec. 28 party at a home owned by Middlebury College were in court to be arraigned on charges ranging from unlawful trespass to vandalism.

Authorities allege that Andrew Ford, 17, of Ripton, a former employee of the college, organized the party; and that Patrick Deering, 23, of Middlebury, provided the beer.

Addison County State’s Attorney John Quinn said 16 of the young people, mostly teenagers, would have charges of unlawful trespass dropped if they successfully complete a court diversion program.
