Two charged in foiled prison escape

Two people are facing charges in a foiled prison escape at the Northern State Correctional Facility in Newport.

A former inmate has been charged with throwing bolt cutters over the fence at the jail in November to help an inmate escape.

Twenty-three-year-old John Pinto Junior, of Saint Johnsbury, has pleaded not guilty to two felony charges of helping an inmate escape. He was jailed on $10,000 bail.

Police say his girlfriend had bought the tools and organized the jail break.

Twenty-six-year-old Cynthia Patneaude of Saint Albans, has pleaded not guilty to similar felony charges and was released.
