Two central Vermont men are facing charges in a deer-poaching case that sprang from a decoy operation.

State game wardens using a decoy in Royalton last Friday night say shots were fired at it. Wardens stopped a car but no gun was found.

A short time later, wardens found a firearm in a field along the side of the road where they believe it had been tossed by the suspects.

Mikel Brady of Randolph and Joshua Hill of Bethel, both 23, face charges of taking deer in closed season, taking deer by illegal means and possession of a loaded rifle in a motor vehicle.

And wardens say Brady and Hill may face additional charges.
