U.S. Senate Candidate Dan Freilich On His Candidacy

There are a number of independent and minor party candidates running for the U.S. Senate this year.

One of them is Dan Freilich. He moved to Vermont in 1992 and worked at Fletcher Allen in Burlington and Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans. He became an Active Duty Medical Officer for the U.S. Navy in 1998. Currently he’s a U.S. Navy Select Reserves Medical Officer – a job that’s based in White River Junction and Bethesda Maryland.

Freilich ran in the Democratic primary against incumbent senator Patrick Leahy and lost.  He received roughly 11 % of the vote. Now he’s running as an independent. He spoke with VPR’s Bob Kinzel about why he decided to stay in the race after losing in the Democratic primary:
