Unauthorized UVM contracts to be investigated

A financial services firm will investigate unauthorized contracts issued by the University of Vermont to a consultant.

The Boston-based firm is expected to report the results of its audit on August First to a Burlington law firm hired to lead the investigation.

The four contracts, worth more than $250,000 each, were awarded to Huron Consulting Group to correct problems with the installation of new financial management software.

But they were issued without needed approvals from the president and board of trustees.

The contracts were revealed by a UVM employee in April. Chief Financial Officer J. Michael Gower, who had been in charge of the software implementation, announced his resignation a short time later.
