Vermont’s unemployment rate fell slightly last month to 3%, but labor officials say the decline is overstated.

The jobless rate fell three-tenths of a percentage point from April. State officials say the drop appears to be related to the low number of people who were surveyed.

The state Labor Department says the rate probably isn’t much different from April, when it was 3.3%.

Unemployment rates for Vermont’s 17 labor market areas ranged from 1.6% in Hartford to 3.8% in Rutland.
