University Mall Suing South Burlington

Owners of Vermont’s largest enclosed shopping mall are suing the City of South Burlington for denying their plans to upgrade and expand.

University Mall has filed a lawsuit alleging South Burlington’s City Council failed to follow state law in denying its application to build a new 6,000 square foot expansion.

The suit says the Council didn’t review the application, which is required under state law, and denied it based on interim zoning codes that haven’t yet been approved.

University Mall says the Council’s decision could hurt economic development at a time when Chittenden County is still recovering from a recession.
