The University of Vermont has gotten a $3.2 million boost in funding for next year.
In a memo released Tuesday, CFO Richard Cate says the money became available because the anticipated state appropriation for 2010 is higher than originally expected.
The memo says some of the money will be used to fund lecturers and some tenure-track positions.
The news comes a few weeks after 33 students protesting budget cuts and prospective layoffs were arrested for refusing to leave an administrative building.
Three months ago, the administration declared a $10.8 million budget reduction for the fiscal year beginning July 1. Those cuts included eliminating two varsity sports.
