The faculty union at the University of Vermont has ratified a new contract providing 5 percent raises in each of the next three years and expanded family leave benefits.

The 214 to 1 ratification vote Thursday was on a contract that was tentatively agreed to earlier this month. Union leaders say they’re happy with the deal, and that it brings UVM closer to regional and national norms in faculty pay.
A new parental leave provision gives 15 weeks – or one full semester – off with the birth of a child.

The new contract also keeps employee contributions to the health insurance plans at current percentages.
