The University of Vermont is negotiating to buy the Montpelier campus of Union Institute and University.

Officials with the Union Institute say the sale of the thirty-two-acre campus would save money and strengthen existing programs.

The sale would also include three masters of fine arts programs run by the institute.

Remaining programs would be moved to the institute’s academic center in Brattleboro.

Union Institute is based in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The sale would have to be approved by the trustees of the Institute and UVM.
