Verizon Wireless is buying a cellular company with operations in Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire.
The nation’s second-largest wireless provider behind AT&T announced today it will purchase Rural Cellular for $757 million in cash in a move to expand its wireless service coverage in rural markets.
Minnesota-based Rural Cellular provides cell phone service in 15 states including Vermont under the Unicel brand. Unicel operates in five New England states.
The deal comes one month after AT&T agreed to buy larger rural wireless service provider Dobson Communications.
