A small plane that may have entered Canadian airspace was intercepted by F-16 fighters over Vermont Friday and the pilot was questioned after the plane landed in Wiscasset, Maine.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the Piper Saratoga touched down at 11:30 Friday morning after the pilot was directed to land at the Wiscasset airport. The plane was met there by federal officials who wanted to question the pilot.

Police said the pilot, Ken Boudin of Wiscasset, was a local business owner who had made similar flights in the past with no problems. The FAA said the plane took off from Michigan and was traveling east when Canadian officials thought it may have traveled into that country’s airspace.

The Piper was intercepted by F-16s from the 158th Fighter Wing of the Vermont Air National Guard.
