The state of Vermont will get $81,000 as its share of a national settlement reached against drug maker Barr Pharmaceuticals.

Vermont was one of 34 states that sued the company in 2005 for antitrust violations relating to keeping generic versions of an oral contraceptive off the market.

The suit accused Barr Pharmaceuticals of backing off plans to market a generic version of Ovcon after receiving a $20 million payment from rival Warner Chilcott.

Attorney General William Sorrell says the state will continue to fight drug company practices that keep lower-priced generic drugs off the market.
