Most of the 200 Vermont National Guard members sent to Iraq last month are escorting military convoys in the Baghdad area. Vermont National Guard spokeswoman Lieutenant Veronica Saffo says a few of the soldiers remain at a camp about 65 miles south of Baghdad, but they will move to the Baghdad area as well.

Saffo says the Vermonters have seen minor combat, but they have not faced the brunt of a major attack. A handful of Vermont National Guard truck drivers are operating near Balad, Iraq, with a New Hampshire unit. Saffo says the guard headquarters in Colchester is in regular communication with the leadership of the Williston-based unit that is now in Iraq.
