The Vermont Historical Society is one of 10 organizations across the country to receive the nation’s highest honor for community service provided by museums and libraries.

The 2007 National Medal for Museum and Library Services was made by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the primary source of federal funding for the nation’s libraries and museums.

The award recognizes outstanding social, educational, environmental, or economic contributions to their communities.

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders nominated the Vermont Historical Society. He says the society uses connects Vermonters with the state’s traditions.
