Toby Aronson and Matthew Mayer co-founded NNA Tapes in 2008 in Burlington. NNA doesn’t really stand for anything now, but their inside joke at the time was "Nu New Age."

By June 2012 they will have released 55 albums for various artists, few of them in Vermont. They also dabble in vinyl with 8 releases so far.  But it was only last year that they realized their home-grown project was a "real label."   The company doesn’t "sign" artists in the traditional label sense. Aronson says they "curate a gallery of music that contributes to a dialog."
