Talk about thrifty: Vermont has the lowest rate of credit card delinquencies of any state in the nation except North Dakota.

So says credit reporting agency TransUnion, which reported yesterday that average bank credit card debt increased nearly 1.6 percent in the third quarter compared with the second quarter.

Nationally, the ratio of bank card borrowers delinquent on one or more of their cards increased to 1.09 percent in the third quarter.

Nevada had the highest rate. The lowest – 0.7 percent – was found in North Dakota and Vermont.
