The head of the Vermont Ski Areas Association says it was a banner year for the state’s ski resorts.

Parker Riehle says he expects that skier visits during the winter of 2007-2008 will surpass 4.1 million.

Final numbers won’t be tallied until June, but Riehle says timely snowfalls before and during weekends and holidays made for big business at the resorts.

At Okemo Mountain Resort in Ludlow, visits were up nearly 25 percent from last season.

Spokeswoman Bonnie MacPherson says season pass sales were up 30 percent.

All the snow and ski days were a welcome change from the winter of 2006-2007, when Vermont ski resorts recorded 3.8 million skier visits, which was a 7 percent drop from the previous year.

Vermont’s best season was 1986-87, with 5.2 million skier visits.
