Vermont fourth- and eighth-grade students scored above the national average in reading tests. The tests were administered by the National Assessment of Educational Progress.

The results show 39% of Vermont’s fourth-graders are at or above the proficient level for reading, compared to 30 percent nationally. Forty percent of Vermont’s eighth-graders achieved that level. Education officials say although there’s room for improvement, the results show the state is making progress.
