Vermonters cope with high price at the pump

To offset high gas prices, some Vermonters are taking public transportation and cutting back on travel.

According to VermontGasPrices.com, the price of unleaded gas reached an average of $3.26 per gallon on Friday.

That’s 10 cents more than last month, and 46 cents more than last year.

Five years ago, filling up cost half that much.

The increase has prompted some Vermonters to take the bus.

The number of riders on Marble Valley Regional Transit District, a Rutland County public-transportation service, has jumped by 12 percent to 35 percent on some routes in the last year.

Chittenden County Transit Authority’s Montpelier-to-Burlington route also is busier, with 29 percent more passengers since last July.
