Vermont’s beginning teacher salaries 46th in nation

A report by a national teachers’ union says Vermont’s beginning teacher salary is one of the lowest in the country.
The American Federation of Teachers conducted a state-by-state analysis of teachers’ salaries for 2001 to 2002.

According to the report, Vermont’s beginning teachers earned $25,229 – the 46th lowest beginning teacher salary among the 50 states. The national average salary for beginning teachers was $30,719.

However, Vermont does rank 28th in the country for average teacher salary. Vermont teachers received an average salary of $39,771, according to the report.
