A home improvement store at the center of a stormwater dispute will soon be opening its doors.

Construction on the 120-000-square foot Lowe’s building in South Burlington is nearing completion.

The store is due to open in January. And the company is in the process of hiring up to 175 employees.

Vermont is the last state in the country to host one of the company’s stores, and it will have taken Lowe’s nearly seven years to open its first store in the state.

Construction on the South Burlington store was halted in 2004 after a dispute over stormwater runoff. Construction resumed last year.

Lowe’s is in the process of trying to open a second Vermont store in Essex.
