(Montpelier, Vermont-AP) — The state of Vermont is sharing a 51 (m)million dollar settlement with Ford Motor Company over deceptive trade practices.

Vermont and 51 other states and jurisdictions charged that Ford failed to disclose a known safety risk about tire failures with certain Firestone A-T-X and Wilderness A-T tires on some Ford sport utility vehicles.

The states charged that Ford continued to use the tires even after the company knew the tires had an unacceptably high failure rate.

Ford denies any wrongdoing.

Each jurisdiction, including Vermont, will get 300-thousand dollars.

Thirty (m)-million dollars will be used to fund a nationwide advertising program that will promote S-U-V safety. (AP)
