(Host) A new program was launched last week to encourage more people to vote. The goal of the effort is to ask Vermonters to honor the memory of veterans by going to the polls and participating in their local, state or national election.
The plan is a collaboration between the Secretary of State’s office and a number of veterans groups throughout the state. Leonard Doscinski is the former Norwich University commandant lieutenant colonel. Standing on the Statehouse steps, he said that the program is an excellent way to honor those veterans who have go to war for this country:
(Doscinski) “The vast majority are not looking to be remembered for the sacrifices they made. They’re not looking for honor for the sacrifices or the deeds they personally performed or suffered. What they want is for those other guys to be remembered or appreciated.”
(Host) Docscinski says it is critical to protect the basic freedoms of this country in light of the terrorist attacks of September 11. He says the most basic freedom is the right to vote.
