A vintage guitar worth hundreds of thousands of dollars is at the center of a legal fight in Brattleboro, where its former owner accuses a buyer of not paying.

The 1959 Les Paul Standard was sold by Patrick Gaffney, of Putney, who runs a vintage guitar gallery in Brattleboro.

He sold the guitar to a Florida man for $370,000 but now he says that the buyer gave him two $50,000 checks that bounced and that he’s still owed $120,000.

Meanwhile, the buyer who allegedly wrote the bad checks has since sold the guitar for $425,000.

Gaffney’s attorney, Sam Angell, says Gaffney was done wrong in the deal. He has filed a lawsuit in federal court in Brattleboro.
