Vital Signs: Vermont Charts A New Course For Health Care

One local doctor who’s been at the center of the debate over changing health care is Elliot Fisher. Fisher is the Director of Population Health and Policy at the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice.

The institute’s work has shown that spending more on care doesn’t always produce the best outcomes for patients. And this research has informed the debate over changing the way doctors treat patients, and how doctors are compensated.

Dr. Fisher speaks with VPR’s Jane Lindholm about the physician’s role in the health system overhaul, and the challenges doctors face in adapting to new approaches to how we deliver and pay for health care.
